Rwanda generated more than Rwf 14.1 billion from agricultural and livestock exports over a five-day period, according to the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB), underscoring the continued strength of the country’s agro-export sector.

In its weekly export performance report covering May 4 to May 8, 2026, NAEB indicated that a total of 9,352 tonnes of agricultural and livestock products were shipped to international markets, contributing significant foreign exchange earnings.

Tea emerged as the top foreign exchange earner during the period, generating Rwf 4.2 billion from 1,027 tonnes exported. Coffee followed with Rwf 1.2 billion from 194 tonnes shipped to global markets.

Horticultural exports also posted notable performance. Vegetables earned Rwf 736 million from 274 tonnes, while fruits generated Rwf 445 million from 456 tonnes exported during the reporting period.

Floriculture contributed Rwf 117 million from 15 tonnes, reflecting the steady growth of Rwanda’s flower export industry.

Staple crops, including cereals, legumes, tubers and other agricultural commodities, accounted for the largest export volume at 6,954 tonnes, generating over Rwf 6 billion in revenue.

Livestock and animal-based products also played a role in export earnings, contributing Rwf 1.2 billion from 432 tonnes shipped abroad.

NAEB noted that Rwanda’s agricultural export portfolio continues to diversify in both products and destinations, supported by ongoing efforts to improve production quality, post-harvest handling and access to international markets.

During the reporting period, Rwandan agricultural products reached a broad range of markets, including the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, China, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, Nigeria and other African countries.

Officials say the expanding export base is strengthening Rwanda’s foreign exchange inflows while reinforcing agriculture’s role as a key driver of national economic growth.

The latest figures further highlight the sector’s growing competitiveness, particularly as Rwanda continues to invest in value addition and export-oriented farming systems aimed at boosting productivity and market access.
