Rwanda has launched the RSB Quality Academy, a new institution expected to strengthen national and international expertise in quality assurance while reducing training costs in the sector.

The academy, officially inaugurated on June 24, 2026, was established through a partnership between the Government of Rwanda and the Republic of Korea as part of efforts to advance industrial development through modern quality standards and technology.

The Director General of the Rwanda Standards Board (RSB), Raymond Murenzi, said the academy will help address the shortage of skilled professionals in quality assurance and aims to train more than 8,000 specialists within five years.

He noted that the country has long faced a shortage of qualified trainers in the field, forcing institutions to spend significant resources to bring in foreign experts.

“Previously, we used to spend between $20,000 and $30,000 per week to bring in a trainer for just 20 people. With this academy, training will become more accessible, including through e-learning,” he said.

Murenzi added that the academy will complement the Rwanda Standards Board by strengthening national capacity in quality control and inspection, while improving efficiency in service delivery.

He said the institution is expected to help close existing skills gaps and reduce delays in standards enforcement.

The academy has the capacity to train more than 70 learners in person and will also offer online learning options. It is expected to produce over 500 quality inspectors in its first year of operation.
