President of the Republic of Rwanda Paul Kagame, joined several African heads of state and senior dignitaries in Brazzaville for the inauguration of Denis Sassou Nguesso, President of the Republic of Congo, held at Stade Kintélé in the country’s capital.
The ceremony brought together high-level leaders from across the continent, including Democratic Republic of Congo President Félix Tshisekedi and Burundi President Évariste Ndayishimiye, alongside other senior officials and dignitaries.
Sassou Nguesso was sworn in for a new five-year term following his victory in the March 2026 presidential election, in which he secured 94.8% of the vote, defeating six other candidates.
In his address after the swearing-in, Sassou Nguesso pledged continued commitment to national development, stating that he would not disappoint the trust placed in him by citizens and would prioritize economic growth, stability, and social wellbeing.
He remains one of Africa’s longest-serving leaders, having held power for around 42 years, placing him among the continent’s most enduring heads of state.
In 2015, a constitutional referendum removed presidential term and age limits, allowing him to extend his rule through subsequent elections.
