President Paul Kagame, who also chairs the ruling RPF-Inkotanyi, met with senior party leaders on Monday to discuss the movement’s history, guiding values and its continued role in Rwanda’s development.
The meeting, held at the RPF-Inkotanyi headquarters in Intare Conference Arena, Rusororo, focused on strengthening leadership rooted in the party’s ideology, promoting citizen-centred governance and reinforcing accountability in public service.
According to the RPF-Inkotanyi, the discussions aimed to deepen members’ commitment to the party’s core values while ensuring that leadership remains responsive to citizens’ needs as Rwanda pursues its long-term development agenda.
The meeting came less than two weeks after the RPF Political Bureau convened on July 17, bringing together party members and invited guests to deliberate on national priorities and the party’s strategic direction.
The resolutions adopted during that session featured prominently in Monday’s discussions. They included reaffirming the party’s ideological principles as the foundation for national development, advancing self-reliance, preserving Rwanda’s dignity and resilience, and building a country in which every Rwandan feels included and empowered.
Party leaders also stressed the need to safeguard the gains achieved in national unity and reconciliation while strengthening governance that places citizens at the centre of decision-making. They underscored the importance of remaining vigilant in protecting Rwanda’s progress and national interests.
Participants committed to improving service delivery and engaging more closely with communities to ensure that citizens’ concerns are addressed promptly. They also pledged to intensify efforts to combat injustice and promote accountable leadership.
Founded in 1987, the RPF-Inkotanyi is approaching its 40th anniversary. The movement led the armed struggle that ended the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi through the former Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA), which was commanded by Kagame.
Since taking power in 1994, the RPF has overseen Rwanda’s reconstruction and socio-economic transformation. During the meeting, Kagame reminded party leaders that the movement’s founding principles and values remain central to its mission and should continue to guide leadership and national development.
He also called for greater investment in young leaders, urging the party to empower the next generation to preserve the RPF’s legacy and contribute to Rwanda’s continued progress and growing influence on the regional and international stage.
