Entertainment lovers in Rwanda face a difficult choice this weekend as major sporting and music events are scheduled to take place across different parts of the country on the same day.
Saturday, August 1, 2026, will feature a high-stakes CECAFA Kagame Cup clash between Rayon Sports and Al Hilal SC Omdurman at Amahoro Stadium, King James’ 20-year music anniversary concert at BK Arena, and the grand finale of the MTN Iwacu Muzika Festival in Rubavu, which will feature the reunion performance of Urban Boyz.
Rayon Sports battle Al Hilal for CECAFA Kagame Cup semi-final spot
Football fans will turn their attention to Amahoro Stadium, where Rayon Sports face Sudanese giants Al Hilal SC Omdurman in a decisive Group C encounter of the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup.
The match, scheduled for 7:00 pm, is expected to determine which team advances to the semi-finals from the group.
With APR FC already eliminated from the tournament, Rayon Sports carry Rwanda’s remaining hopes of having a representative in the knockout stage. A positive result against Al Hilal would keep those hopes alive.
King James celebrates 20 years in music at BK Arena
Rwandan music star Ruhumuriza James, popularly known as King James, will headline a special concert at BK Arena to celebrate 20 years in the music industry.
The concert is expected to attract thousands of fans as the singer marks a career that began in 2006.
The show has generated strong demand, with tickets for the August 1 performance selling out quickly after being released. Organisers later added a second concert on Sunday, August 2, due to overwhelming interest from fans.
Urban Boyz reunion highlights Iwacu Muzika Festival finale in Rubavu
In Rubavu, music fans will gather for the grand finale of the 2026 MTN Iwacu Muzika Festival after the event toured several districts across Rwanda.
The festival will feature performances from artists including Amalon, Bushali, Kivumbi King, Davis D, Chriss Eazy, Ross Kana, Kenny Sol and Marina.
The biggest highlight will be the return of Urban Boyz, who are set to perform together again after more than eight years apart.
The group, made up of Safi, Nizzo and Humble Jizzo, was among Rwanda’s most popular music acts between 2008 and 2017. In 2016, Urban Boyz became the first group to win the Primus Guma Guma Super Star competition.
TinTin Summer Festival offers family entertainment
Children and families will also have an entertainment option at the TinTin Summer Festival, which will take place at Sanitas in Kanombe.
The festival will feature performances and appearances by several entertainers, including Ugandan comedian Rango Tenge Tenge, who has already arrived in Rwanda, alongside Wembly MO, Beyonce Cyuzuzo, Uncle Banks, Young Grace and DJ Crush.
With major events taking place simultaneously in Kigali and Rubavu, August 1 is shaping up to be one of the busiest entertainment days of the year, leaving many fans with the challenge of deciding where to spend their weekend.
