Nigeria has confirmed that a widely circulated photo showing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu dining with Rwandan President Paul Kagame in Paris is authentic and was not created using artificial intelligence (AI).
Senior Presidential Adviser Temitope Ajayi said on Monday, December 5, 2025, that the image, first posted on the Facebook page of the Nigerian Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, captures a genuine moment from a working meeting on Sunday.
During the meeting, the two leaders shared lunch and later attended a dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron.
Ajayi explained that the photo was taken on a mobile phone, which caused lower resolution. AI technology was only used to enhance its clarity and appearance, not to create it.
“The photo is authentic and should not be mistaken for an AI-generated image,” Ajayi said, criticizing media outlets for quickly labeling it fake without verification.
He urged journalists and editors to confirm facts thoroughly before publishing, highlighting the importance of accurate reporting.
