A low-income family in Nyanza District is seeking urgent support after welcoming triplets, citing financial hardship and difficulties in providing basic needs for the newborn babies.
The triplets, two boys and one girl, were born last week at Nyanza District Hospital. The family lives in Karehe Village, Nyabinyenga Cell, Cyabakamyi Sector in Nyanza District.
Adrien Niyodusaba, the 25-year-old father of the babies, said the arrival of the three children at once has placed a heavy burden on the family, which survives on casual labor and occasional construction work. He added that the children’s mother is unemployed, making it even harder to meet the babies’ daily needs.
According to Niyodusaba, one of the biggest challenges is securing enough milk for the infants, as the mother cannot adequately breastfeed all three babies.
“I do not own a cow to provide milk, and I also lack the financial means to care for the babies. Any support from well-wishers would make a big difference,” he said.
Nadine Kayitesi, Vice Mayor of Nyanza District in charge of social affairs, said local authorities have already started supporting the family with infant formula and other basic necessities.
She noted that district officials are continuing to assess the family’s situation and provide assistance based on available resources.
The family said the triplets are their first children. After spending several days under medical care, the babies have since been discharged from hospital and are now at home.
