Three leaders of the security management cooperative ‘Umoja ni Ngufu’ in Nyanza District have been arrested over allegations of misusing cooperative funds.
The suspects have been held for a week at the Busasamana RIB station while authorities continue their investigation. The cooperative provides security services to Nyanza’s main market, schools, and other institutions in the area.
Those arrested include the cooperative’s President, Pascal; Human Resources Officer, Vincent; and night shift supervisor, Kayumba.
Egide Bizimana, Executive Secretary of Busasamana Sector, confirmed that the arrests are part of an ongoing probe into the alleged misuse of cooperative resources. He did not specify the amount involved, saying the investigation will reveal the full extent of the mismanagement.
“Since the investigation is ongoing, we cannot yet quantify the funds allegedly misused. What will be clear is how the cooperative’s money was actually handled,” Bizimana said.
Reports indicate that another employee responsible for billing partner institutions under the cooperative is also under investigation.
On March 5, 2026, a general meeting of cooperative members elected new leadership to replace the detained officials. Rtd Major Jean Bosco Mubarakh Kayinamura was chosen as the new President, marking a fresh start for the cooperative.
