Rwanda’s Prime Minister, Justin Nsengiyumva, on February 16, 2026, met with Belén Calvo Uyarra, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Rwanda, to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
According to the Office of the Prime Minister, the discussions focused on reinforcing the longstanding partnership between Rwanda and the European Union, with emphasis on development collaboration and strategic investment.
The European Union remains one of Rwanda’s key development partners. In October 2025, the bloc committed €95 million to support vaccine manufacturing initiatives in the country, a move aimed at strengthening Rwanda’s health sector and expanding regional production capacity.
Data from the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) show that investments from EU member states created approximately 20,000 jobs for Rwandans between 2018 and 2022. Over the same period, Rwanda registered $870 million in investments originating from European countries.
Among EU member states with significant investment presence in Rwanda are France, Netherlands, Germany, and Sweden.
In 2023 alone, more than 85 individuals and companies from EU member states invested in Rwanda, underscoring the expanding economic footprint of European partners in the country.
The meeting signals continued commitment from both sides to deepen cooperation in priority sectors, including health, investment, and sustainable development.
