The seventh meeting of military leaders from Rwanda and Uganda along their shared border concluded on Friday, February 20, 2026, with measures to enhance security and curb crimes in the region.

The three-day discussions, held in Musanze District, Northern Province, focused on reinforcing cooperation, trust, and strong relations between the two countries’ armed forces. Participants reviewed decisions from the sixth joint meeting held from September 30 to October 2, 2025, in Kabale, Uganda, and assessed progress on their implementation.

Key issues addressed included illegal border crossings, human trafficking, illicit trade, livestock theft, smuggling of alcohol, fraud, and impersonation. Both sides emphasized the importance of continuous collaboration through regular consultations and joint operations to strengthen border security and promote regional stability.

The meeting also highlighted the value of involving local communities through civil-military cooperation programs, environmental protection initiatives, and joint military exercises.

Rwanda’s Maj Gen Ruki Karusisi, commander of RDF Division 5, and Uganda’s Maj Gen Paul Muhanguzi, commander of UPDF Division 2, affirmed their commitment to implementing decisions, addressing emerging issues, and maintaining peace, security, and confidence along the border.
