Rwanda has taken over the chairmanship of the Ministerial Council of the Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency (CCTTFA), following the election of Minister of Infrastructure Eng. Damien Murwanashyaka as the new chair.
He succeeds Malawi’s Minister of Transport and Public Works, Jappie Mhango, who previously held the position.
The transition took place during the 15th meeting of ministers from Central Corridor member states, held in Tanzania on Friday, June 19, 2026.
The meeting brought together ministers from seven member countries to review the implementation of ongoing programmes and assess progress under the 2025/2026 budget.
Participants noted overall progress in planned activities and approved the work programme and budget for the 2026/2027 financial year, aimed at improving transport efficiency and facilitating regional trade.
Discussions focused on reducing transport costs and improving the movement of goods from the Port of Dar es Salaam to landlocked countries in the region.
Ministers also reviewed cooperation under an agreement between the CCTTFA and the German development agency GIZ, implemented through the “Africa InCORE” project, which promotes green infrastructure development and supports intra-African trade.
The meeting highlighted continued progress in easing cross-border movement and strengthening trade facilitation among member states.
Outgoing chair Jappie Mhango commended the unity of the seven member countries—Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Zambia and Malawi—saying their cooperation remains key to advancing regional integration and economic development.
