Rwanda’s national men’s volleyball team will begin its campaign at the African Volleyball Championship in Tunis, Tunisia, against the Central African Republic at 10 p.m. Kigali time on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
Rwanda is in Group D alongside Cameroon, the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo). It is the only group with four teams.
Group A consists of Ghana, Tunisia and Kenya, while Group B features Egypt, Gambia and Morocco. Group C includes Algeria, Chad and Nigeria.
The teams finishing first in Groups A, C and D will automatically qualify for the Round of 16. The remaining 10 teams will compete among themselves for the other places in the Round of 16.
A total of 13 teams are taking part in the championship, although 16 teams had originally been expected. Libya, Uganda and Zimbabwe did not participate despite having qualified.
The championship was originally scheduled to take place in DR Congo but was moved to Tunisia after several federations raised concerns about traveling to the country because of the Ebola outbreak. The tournament was also postponed by 10 days.
Tunisia, the host nation, has won the African championship 11 times, while Egypt has won it nine times. Egypt is the defending champion and currently ranks first in Africa.
