Prime Minister Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva has held high-level talks with leaders of GX Foundation on potential cooperation to strengthen Rwanda’s healthcare and public health systems.
The meeting, held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, brought together the Prime Minister and a delegation led by Leung Chun-Ying, Chief Executive Officer of GX Foundation, an international philanthropic organization supporting health initiatives in developing countries.
Discussions focused on identifying areas of collaboration that could contribute to improving access to quality healthcare, preventing avoidable diseases, and enhancing public health outcomes in Rwanda, in line with national development priorities.
Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Hong Kong, China, GX Foundation works across Asia, Africa, and Central America, supporting programmes such as cataract prevention, infectious disease control, hygiene and sanitation promotion, and health emergency response. Its interventions are implemented through capacity building, partnerships with international health organizations, community health education, and close engagement with governments.
The foundation currently operates in countries including Senegal, Mauritania, Djibouti, Cambodia, Laos, Honduras, Fiji, and Vanuatu, with plans to expand into new partner states.
Rwanda’s inclusion among potential partner countries reflects its commitment to strengthening health systems and improving citizens’ well-being under the National Strategy for Transformation (NST2), which prioritizes quality healthcare as a pillar of sustainable development.
