Foreign Affairs Minister Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe has held discussions with counterparts from several countries, urging strengthened bilateral cooperation while also seeking support for Rwanda’s backing of Louise Mushikiwabo’s candidacy for Secretary General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF).
On Thursday, May 21, 2026, Amb. Nduhungirehe met with foreign ministers from Guinea-Bissau, João Bernardo Vieira; Haiti, Raina Forbin; São Tomé and Príncipe, Dr. Ilza Maria dos Santos Amado Vaz; and Côte d’Ivoire, Nialé Kaba.
The meetings were held in Rabat, Morocco, on the sidelines of a ministerial conference on peacekeeping operations in Francophone countries.
Discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations between Rwanda and the respective countries, as well as exchanging views on areas of shared interest within the Francophone space.
The engagements also served as an opportunity for Rwanda to lobby for support for Louise Mushikiwabo’s bid for a new term as OIF Secretary General.
Mushikiwabo, who currently holds the position, is seeking a third term after being first elected in 2018 and re-elected in 2022.
She has already declared her intention to continue leading the organisation, with several member states reportedly expressing support for her leadership. The election for the new mandate is scheduled for November 15–16, 2026.
