Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has held high-level talks with Rwandan President Paul Kagame in Paris, where the two leaders met ahead of an upcoming international summit on sustainable development.

The meeting took place on Sunday, January 4, 2026, during which the two presidents shared a working lunch and exchanged views on global and African affairs, with a focus on Africa’s role in a rapidly changing international landscape.

President Tinubu said the discussions covered contemporary global challenges and strategies to strengthen Africa’s position on the world stage.

The engagement comes as both leaders prepare to attend the Abu Dhabi sustainability development conference, convened at the invitation of United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Nigeria and Rwanda maintain longstanding diplomatic relations dating back to Rwanda’s independence in 1962.

The two countries collaborate within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations, the African Union and the Commonwealth.

Bilateral ties have also expanded in the economic and transport sectors.

In 2018, the two governments signed an air services agreement that allows Rwanda’s national carrier, RwandAir, to operate flights to any Nigerian airport and connect passengers to other destinations across Africa.
