Ngoma High Court has sentenced Nyirahabiyaremye Agnès to life imprisonment for intentionally killing her husband, Habufite Jean Pierre, while Mugenzi Joseph received a 25-year prison term after being found guilty of aiding and abetting the murder.
The verdict was delivered on Friday following the trial of the January 31, 2026, killing. According to court proceedings, the crime occurred in Gishaka village, Bujyujyu cell, Muyumbu sector, Rwamagana District. Nyirahabiyaremye reportedly stabbed her husband to death with a knife.
Prosecutors presented evidence that the murder was premeditated. Nyirahabiyaremye purchased the knife for 500 Rwandan francs, money allegedly provided by Mugenzi Joseph. The two had reportedly planned to live together as a couple after committing the murder.
The court ruled that there was sufficient evidence to convict Nyirahabiyaremye of intentional homicide, imposing a life sentence. Mugenzi Joseph was found guilty of assisting and conspiring in the crime and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
The judgment underscores the severity of intentional homicide and the consequences of complicity in such crimes, sending a strong message to deter similar acts within Rwandan society.
