Prime Minister Dr Justin Nsengiyumva has commended residents of Nyabihu District for their active participation in Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and Rwanda National Police (RNP) community initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods and supporting national development.

He made the remarks on Saturday, July 4, 2026, during the closure of nationwide joint RDF and RNP civic activities that had been implemented over the past three months.

The event, held as part of the 32nd Liberation Day commemorations, also featured the handover of 30 houses constructed for vulnerable families in Nyabihu District.

Prime Minister Nsengiyumva said the collaboration between security institutions, local authorities, and citizens demonstrates a strong foundation for both national stability and socio-economic transformation.

He linked the initiatives to Rwanda’s liberation journey, noting that the country’s progress is built on unity, collective effort, and the determination to rebuild after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

“What we also appreciate is the role of citizens in what is done for them. In this programme, citizen participation through Umuganda has been very evident. This has also helped many people gain employment,” he said.

He added that the projects implemented under the programme, including housing and infrastructure development, reflect the enduring partnership between security forces and communities in advancing development.

Nsengiyumva also praised the Rwanda Defence Force and Rwanda National Police for their dual role in maintaining security and contributing to socio-economic development projects that directly benefit citizens.

He emphasized that security should be understood beyond the absence of conflict, describing it as the protection of people’s lives, property, and daily well-being from any form of disruption.

Officials said this year’s joint RDF and RNP civic activities, which began in March 2026, cost approximately RWF 2.7 billion.

The projects included the construction of bridges, provision of boats to improve transport and trade, distribution of livestock, support to cooperatives, construction of classrooms and housing, expansion of healthcare services, and improved access to clean water across different communities.
