Colonel Désiré Migambi Mungamba has urged Rwanda’s golfing community, particularly young players, to play an active role in promoting national unity, patriotism and Rwandan values as the country continues commemorating the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
He made the call during a remembrance evening organized by Rwanda Golf Union at Kigali Golf Resort and Villas in Nyarutarama on Saturday, where golfers and invited guests gathered to honour victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi.
Speaking at the event, Col. Migambi reflected on the history of divisionism and ethnic hatred propagated by past leadership, while highlighting the liberation struggle that stopped the Genocide and laid the foundation for Rwanda’s unity and reconstruction.
He emphasized the importance of safeguarding the country’s achievements by strengthening unity and preserving values that promote social cohesion and national identity.
Col. Migambi particularly challenged young golfers to continue embracing patriotism and responsible citizenship as Rwanda advances its journey of reconciliation and resilience.
The remembrance event formed part of nationwide activities organized during the 32nd commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi.
