The Head of Civil-Military Cooperation in the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), Col Désiré Migambi Mungamba, has called on young people to remain committed to unity, patriotism, and national development as core values of Rwanda’s future.
He made the remarks on Tuesday during a genocide remembrance and commemoration activity held at the Kigali Genocide Memorial in Gisozi, where he joined staff of the National Commission for Demobilisation and Reintegration (RDRC) alongside former combatants from the Mutobo Reintegration Centre.
The event brought together RDRC officials and 245 former FDLR members currently undergoing reintegration training at Mutobo, who participated in honouring victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
Participants also received educational sessions aimed at deepening their understanding of how the genocide was planned and executed under a regime that promoted divisive ideology and ethnic hatred.
Col Migambi emphasized that Rwanda’s progress depends on safeguarding unity and strengthening values of patriotism, national sovereignty, and shared development, particularly among the youth.
Many of the former FDLR members taking part in the programme are young people born and raised in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, with the initiative aimed at supporting their reintegration and reinforcing awareness of genocide history and prevention.
