Rwanda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Usta Kaitesi, has praised the strong and longstanding relationship between Rwanda and the United Kingdom, saying it continues to deliver tangible benefits across key sectors of development.
She made the remarks while attending a reception hosted by the British Embassy in Rwanda to mark the official birthday of King Charles III.
The event, held in Kacyiru, brought together senior government officials, diplomats, development partners and friends of both countries in a celebration that also underscored the diplomatic ties between Kigali and London.
Dr. Kaitesi said the Rwanda-UK partnership remains grounded in mutual respect, constructive engagement and a shared commitment to sustainable development. She noted that cooperation between the two countries continues to expand in areas including trade and investment, education, health, environmental protection, technology, as well as youth and women empowerment.
She emphasized that the collaboration has contributed to improving livelihoods and supporting inclusive growth.
Rwanda and the United Kingdom maintain long-standing diplomatic relations and are both members of the Commonwealth of Nations, a bloc that promotes democracy, peace and sustainable development.
The minister also highlighted Rwanda’s hosting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2022, which was attended by then-Prince Charles before he ascended to the throne.
King Charles III became monarch on September 8, 2022, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II. He was formally crowned on May 6, 2023, at Westminster Abbey.
Before his accession to the throne, Charles served for more than seven decades as the Prince of Wales and gained global recognition for his advocacy on environmental conservation, climate action, sustainable agriculture and youth development through charitable work.
These priorities have continued to shape his reign.
The official birthday of King Charles III is marked annually by British embassies worldwide and serves as a platform to strengthen diplomatic relations and celebrate friendship between the United Kingdom and partner countries.
Although King Charles III was born on November 14, 1948, his official birthday is traditionally celebrated in June, when weather conditions are more suitable for public ceremonies and receptions.
