Atete Kagorora Arianah, a Rwandan secondary school student, secured first place in the annual essay writing competition organized by the East African Community (EAC).
The competition is coordinated by the East African Community Secretariat, the institution responsible for overseeing the implementation and monitoring of the regional bloc’s policies and programmes, headquartered in Arusha.
Held every year, the contest brings together students from lower secondary schools across EAC member states and aims to enhance youth awareness about the bloc’s activities while promoting appreciation of regional integration and cooperation.
In her winning essay, Atete examined the impacts of climate change in the East African region and proposed solutions that could help countries in the bloc address the growing global challenge.
She received the regional award during the 25th Ordinary Summit of EAC Heads of State held in Arusha on March 7, 2026.
Following her victory, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs congratulated her and encouraged her to maintain excellence in her studies while continuing to promote Rwanda’s image on the international stage.
Speaking to the media, Atete said she was proud to represent Rwanda internationally, noting that her success resulted from extensive research and thorough preparation on the competition’s theme.
