Minister of Infrastructure Damien Murwanashyaka has pledged to deliver on his new responsibilities, saying his appointment to cabinet for the first time will not affect his ability to perform effectively.

He said he is committed to learning quickly and ensuring that he meets expectations set by President Paul Kagame and the public.

Murwanashyaka made the remarks during a handover ceremony on June 17, following his appointment as Minister of Infrastructure, replacing Dr Jimmy Gasore.

On the same day, President Kagame received the oath of office from newly appointed cabinet members and reminded them that their primary responsibility is to serve citizens and promote their welfare and development.

He stressed that public service appointments are based on demonstrated competence and trust, urging leaders to remain mindful that many other capable Rwandans could have been entrusted with similar roles.

“Each of you has been given these responsibilities because of the capacity you have shown or that others have identified in you. But you should also remind yourselves that there are many other Rwandans who could do the same work. Keeping that in mind helps you remain focused and effective,” he said.

Murwanashyaka said he is ready to execute the mandate entrusted to him, noting that although he is new to cabinet, his experience in both the private sector and public institutions will enable him to adapt quickly.

“I know some people may think that because I come from the private sector and smaller public institutions, and this is my first time in cabinet, it will be a challenge. But I learn quickly, and I will not disappoint,” he said.

He welcomed the structure of the ministry, noting that the appointment of two State Ministers would enhance coordination and efficiency.

“Having two State Ministers is an added advantage. Two are better than one,” he said.

Murwanashyaka is a professional civil engineer and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, with more than 15 years of experience in construction and infrastructure development.

He studied civil engineering at the University of Rwanda and later at Oklahoma Christian University.

Before his appointment, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Preferred Contractors and held senior positions including Managing Director of UDL, Chief Quantity Surveyor at Real Contractors Ltd, and roles at ROKO Construction Ltd, Century Engineering and Contractors Ltd, and Gasabo 3D Design Ltd.
