Health Minister Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana has commended the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and Rwanda National Police for their contribution to community health services after more than 8,000 patients were treated at Munini Hospital in Nyaruguru District during a nationwide medical outreach.
He made the remarks on Saturday during Liberation Day celebrations in Nyaruguru, where residents joined national festivities marking the 32nd anniversary of Rwanda’s liberation.
The event also marked the conclusion of a countrywide free medical services campaign organized by RDF and Rwanda National Police as part of their 2026 community support activities.
Nyaruguru District Mayor Dr. Emmanuel Murwanashyaka said the commemoration was an opportunity to reflect on social and economic progress, particularly in agriculture and healthcare.
“We are proud that citizens have overcome poor living conditions. Agricultural productivity has improved, and access to quality healthcare has increased with better facilities and specialists. In just one month, over 8,000 patients were treated,” he said.
Dr. Nsanzimana said Liberation Day symbolizes the restoration of life and dignity, crediting the former RPA forces for ending the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi under the leadership of President Paul Kagame.
Across the country, more than 30,000 people benefited from free medical services during the outreach, with Munini Hospital accounting for the largest share of patients treated.
