President Paul Kagame has held discussions with senior leaders of The Wood Foundation, focusing on long-standing cooperation in Rwanda’s tea sector and ongoing initiatives to strengthen healthcare delivery for children.
The meeting took place in Kigali on June 24 and brought together President Kagame, Garreth Wood, and David Knoop.
According to the Office of the President, the talks reviewed progress in collaboration between Rwanda and The Wood Foundation, particularly in agricultural investment and value chain development within the tea industry.
The foundation has been a key partner in supporting Rwanda’s tea sector through farmer-focused initiatives aimed at improving productivity, strengthening supply chains, and enhancing the global competitiveness of Rwandan tea.
The partnership has also contributed to improving livelihoods in tea-growing communities by increasing yields and supporting income generation for smallholder farmers.
Beyond agriculture, the discussions also highlighted the work of Kids Operating Room, an international medical charity co-founded by Garreth Wood and Nicola Wood.
The organization focuses on expanding access to safe pediatric surgery in low- and middle-income countries by equipping hospitals with modern surgical infrastructure and strengthening the capacity of medical personnel.
In Rwanda, Kids Operating Room has partnered with health institutions to improve surgical services for children through equipment support and specialized training for healthcare workers.
The meeting underscored Rwanda’s continued commitment to building strategic partnerships that advance agricultural transformation, strengthen healthcare systems, and support sustainable development priorities.
