The Ministry of Defence, in collaboration with the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), hosted defence attachés accredited to Rwanda for a high-level briefing on national and regional security.
The session took place at RDF Headquarters in Kimihurura on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
A total of 36 representatives from various countries and international organisations attended the briefing, which focused on Rwanda’s security landscape, regional stability, and the role of RDF in United Nations peacekeeping missions as well as bilateral and multilateral military cooperation.
Brigadier General Patrick Karuretwa, Director General of International Military Cooperation at the Ministry of Defence, noted that such engagements are regularly organised and serve as a vital platform for constructive dialogue on evolving security dynamics both regionally and globally.
He highlighted the growing complexity of global security, marked by rising conflicts, strained international cooperation, and increasing pressure on established norms governing relations between states. He emphasised that deeper, trust-based collaboration remains essential in addressing shared security challenges.
Following the discussions, the Dean of Defence Attachés, Brigadier General Mohamed Mirghani Yousif Mohamed of Sudan, commended the briefing, describing it as informative and timely.
He appreciated the comprehensive overview of Rwanda’s security situation, both domestically and externally, noting that the country remains stable and secure—an achievement he said deserves recognition.
Participants included representatives from countries such as Angola, Brazil, Botswana, China, Denmark, Egypt, Ethiopia, France, Ghana, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Luxembourg, Morocco, Namibia, Poland, Qatar, South Korea, Russia, Senegal, Sudan, Sweden, Tanzania, Türkiye, Uganda, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Zimbabwe, as well as the European Union and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
