Rwanda and Botswana have signed six bilateral agreements aimed at strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, transport, health, and regional integration.

The agreements were signed on May 6, 2026, following high-level talks between President Paul Kagame and Botswana’s President Duma Boko during Kagame’s working visit to the southern African nation.

Among the key agreements signed is a deal to eliminate double taxation, a move expected to facilitate trade and encourage cross-border investment between the two countries.

The two nations also signed a visa waiver agreement to ease movement of citizens and strengthen people-to-people exchanges.

Another agreement focuses on cooperation in air transport, reflecting efforts to improve regional connectivity and expand economic partnerships.

Rwanda and Botswana further agreed to strengthen collaboration in the health sector, alongside broader partnerships in trade and economic development.

In the investment sector, Botswana’s investment and trade promotion agency signed a cooperation agreement with Rwanda Development Board (RDB) aimed at boosting private sector collaboration and attracting investment opportunities between the two countries.

President Kagame emphasized that the signed agreements should translate into tangible benefits for citizens, noting that the success of bilateral cooperation should be measured by its impact on livelihoods and economic transformation.

The agreements mark another milestone in the growing diplomatic and economic ties between Rwanda and Botswana as both countries seek to deepen regional cooperation and accelerate development.
