The National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB) has announced that Rwandan coffee ranked among the top five best-performing samples at a major international coffee exhibition held in the United States.
The World of Coffee San Diego exhibition took place in California from April 10, 2026, bringing together global coffee producers, buyers, and industry stakeholders.
NAEB said 48 coffee samples were evaluated during a cupping session, with Rwandan coffee emerging among the top five, underscoring its strong quality performance on the global market.
The recognition reflects ongoing efforts to improve coffee quality, promote innovation, and strengthen competitiveness in the international coffee industry.
The three-day event was attended by NAEB Director General Claude Bizimana, who led a delegation of exporters showcasing the country’s coffee to international buyers.
NAEB further noted that the exhibition provided a strategic platform to explore new export markets and enhance visibility of the coffee sector globally.
On the sidelines, NAEB signed cooperation agreements with the International Coffee Organization (ICO) and the Inter-African Coffee Organisation (IACO), aimed at strengthening collaboration across the coffee value chain.
The agreements focus on improving data collection and analysis, supporting compliance with global trade standards, promoting research on climate-resilient coffee production, and building capacity among value chain actors.
Under the National Strategy for Transformation (NST2), the country targets exporting over 32,000 tonnes of coffee annually and generating more than $192 million by 2029.
