The commander of Mozambique’s land forces, Maj Gen André Rafael Mahunguane, has commended the ongoing cooperation between Mozambican and Rwandan forces in combating terrorism.

He made the remarks on Wednesday during a visit to the headquarters of Rwanda’s security agencies in Mocímboa da Praia, Cabo Delgado province.

During the visit, Maj Gen Mahunguane received updates on the current security situation in Cabo Delgado. He was welcomed by the head of Rwanda’s security agencies, Brig Gen CM Mujuni, along with the Police Commissioner and the commander of the Task Force Group-7 Brigade.

The general emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between the two countries’ forces and pledged his full support.

Following the visit, both sides held discussions focusing on joint military planning, strengthening operational cooperation, and sharing critical intelligence.

Rwandan Defence Forces (RDF) and Rwanda National Police (RNP) were first deployed to Mozambique on July 9, 2021. At that time, Rwanda sent a team of 1,000 soldiers and police officers to Cabo Delgado in northern Mozambique, at the request of the Mozambican government, to help combat armed terrorist groups that had destabilized the region.
